Let’s talk email – one of the most business critical applications.

Office 365 is a email service offered by Microsoft – it’s competitively priced and they seem to be advertising all over and have a few large companies signed up which they brag about in ads. What’s up?

When you think email service, you’re asking:

Why shouldn’t I just use exchange on my own server?

What if your power or internet goes out?

What if someone steals your server or it’s in a fire?

What if you need to reboot your server?

Do you have everything backed up?

How about the cost of your exchange licensing?

What are my Administration costs?

Is my server secure?

Why shouldn’t I just use free POP email?

Do you want your email to be secure?

Do you want it backed up on a server?

Do you want to sync contacts, calendar and email with your outlook and phone?

Why is Office 365 no good?

It seems cheaper… until you figure out the plan level you actually need

See below for our comparison of TWT Group and Office 365

What’s happening with IT Service Providers?

Why can’t they keep up with my business?

As employees feel increasingly entitled to take tech into their own hands via BYOD, the cloud and SaaS, IT is finding itself sidelined. The answer is for IT to redefine itself. Welcome to IT as a Service.

Today’s IT providers face an identity crisis. Technology is an integral part of every single business process, and has come to dominate the lives of consumers who are routinely shopping online, downloading information, and browsing the Internet.

Yet ironically, in an era when technology rules, IT providers are losing ground fast: many are not taking the lead with new technology that can allow them to give their customers what they need and want.

The new IT: Win-Win-Win

This new service-oriented central IT model can deliver new benefits, including lower costs (by eliminating duplicate projects among different clients), more interoperability between differing cloud applications, improved cohesion among departments, and reduced security risks.

All support ends in 365 days yet 38 percent of Internet users still use XP.

Windows XP drops out of extended support on April 8, 2014. As of April 9, 2014, there will be no more security updates or other fixes made for the ancient operating system.

Joining it are Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP, Office 2003, and Exchange Server 2003. Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 2 will also end support on that day, but newer Service Packs will continue to be supported. Naturally, this also includes “Windows XP Mode” in Windows 7 and other virtualized solutions.

About 38 percent of Internet users are still using Windows XP. It’s unlikely that all of them will switch to Windows 7, Windows 8, or some other platform entirely by this time a year from now.

It’s likely that some or all of them will see their computers exploited by malware as a result.

Still running XP? You better start thinking about upgrading!

Yesturday was World Backup Day – This is not an April fools joke…

Hard drive backups are like the socks of gifts you give yourself. They’re initially about as unexciting as gifts can get, only to become the best gift ever in a pinch. Got a meeting in 20 minutes and your normal sock reserve is empty? Thanks for the bag-o-socks, Uncle Steve! Your hard drive just exploded, taking the past 3 years of your digital life with it? Thanks for the backup, past-me!

Besides being the day that keeps the people who make Peeps in business, today also marks the Third Annual World Backup Day. World Backup Day is a tradition that started on reddit back in 2011, and has been rippling out through the rest of the tech-loving world ever since.

Making today’s Backup Day particularly special is the fact that it falls on Easter, which, if nothing else, means you get to use “BRB! Gotta go check my backups!” as a way to escape any awkward family conversations that pop up before the ham is done.

There are two kinds of computer owners: those that backup their data, and those who will backup after they lose something irreplaceable. It’s that last group for whom World Backup Day exists.

Do you Backup?

Does your business Backup?

In the worst case disaster, what’s your plan to get back to making $?

If you don’t know, we can help you find out.

If you are like most Calgary business owners you have the overwhelming feeling that you must do everything and have your hands in every part of your business. This is especially common amongst small businesses and many struggle to delegate tasks or even trust others.

This is common across the country and especially with business owners who think they need to be their own I.T. expert because hiring someone will just cost too much.

Most business owners are great at what they do. It could be accounting, law or even manufacturing a particular product and many have enough technology experience using computer systems that makes them believe they can become the I.T. guy for the company as well. In our experience, we have found business owners spending hours on a technology related problem and losing focus on what matters most to their business, taking care of their clients and making sure efficiencies are met.

In addition, they have spent hours of their valuable time on a computer problem when our team can have this issue tackled in just a few minutes. It’s not that you can’t do it, it’s that we can do it more efficiently, and isn’t that what saving money is all about?

Outsourcing your technology support to a trusted I.T. service organization is often the best answer for many businesses. Our team allows business owners to focus on what they do while leaving the I.T. service issues to our team of highly-skilled and trained I.T. support professionals.

Working with our team can have a direct positive impact on your business’ bottom line.

Here are four reasons to outsource your I.T. services to us:

Access to a trained team of I.T. professionals – Technology can be pricey, especially technology that doesn’t work as designed. Additionally, while the thought of having your own in-house I.T. guy may sound appealing, it is also pricey. When you outsource your I.T. support to our team, you have access to a great team of professionals, more cost-effective than hiring your own I.T. person in-house.

Remove focus on I.T. and focus once again on your business – Technology is the greatest thing to happen to business but it is something many companies are completely dependent on. Technology does break down and needs to be cared for. Our team of I.T. professionals will ensure that your focus is on your business and not on your I.T. We take that worry off your list.

Control Operational Expenses – Many I.T. support organizations will group their services into one monthly package saving you time and money dealing with staffing, software licensing fees and in some situations, hardware expenses. Working with us allows your business to control overall I.T. expenses and save money at the same time.

Reduce risk – You will hear this message from many I.T. support companies. It is true, I.T. systems do breakdown and they do require care and attention. Failing to take care of your systems can result in costly downtime to your business or even loss of business. Our I.T. service team will ensure that your I.T. systems remain operational and available while limiting exposure to harm in your business.

There are many options when choosing to outsource your I.T. support to a trusted I.T. company. We happen to be one of the top companies in the region and we are ready to help you.

If our team of technology professionals can be of service to you, please contact us and book a no obligation review of your I.T. systems and learn how we can help your Calgary business.
